8 Months Old

I can't believe she is already 8 months old. Where does the time go? Although the picture I posted might not be the most flattering (although she is pretty cute regardless!), this is what I see a lot. Ron likes it call it her "Baby Zombie". She grabs both sides of your face and tries to "eat" you. It is pretty funny to watch! Of course now you have to watch out for her razor sharp teeth. She bites!

Sophie continues to pull up on everything! She will even stand at the couch, her Laugh and Learn Table, or the chair and bend her knees to pick up the toys that are left at her feet. She cruises along the couch and from couch to chair to other couch. She likes to turn around as if she can just let go and walk somewhere but she just falls on her bottom. It's crazy!

She no longer army crawls. Its been full out crawling since she turned seven months. No place is off limits. Thankfully she hasn't been interested in our stairs. I'm sure that time will come, but for now her interest is peaked at the sight of shoes, cords, Ellie's pup toys, plastic bags, Ellie's food and water bowls, and anything else she is not supposed to touch. Everything goes in her mouth!

She has 4 teeth. Two on the bottom and two on top. She is getting more interested in solid food, but still prefers Mommy's Milk. So far she has eaten rice cereal, oatmeal, homemade applesauce, banana, butternut squash, sweet potato, green beans, avocado, Gerber Graduate Puffs: sweet potato and strawberry-apple. My goal is to make her baby food. So far we have bought organic baby food in the jars. So far we haven't really eaten anything that I have felt comfortable giving her. We'll see.

She really has super human arm strength. There have been several times where she has been trying to get something on top of the desk table we have in the Living Room and her feet (BOTH) will come several inches off the floor. Last night she even tried to use the couch as leverage by pushing off of it with her left foot while the right foot was off the floor. We just watch and laugh. What else is one to do when their baby is not acting like a baby?

It has been so fun to watch Sophie and Ellie interact. Sophie gets so excited when she sees Ellie for the first time in the morning. Of course she also likes to try and eat the poor pup. Ellie gets her back by giving her LOTS of licks. They like to share their toys with each other. When Sophie is sitting in her highchair, you know that Ellie will be close by waiting for "crumbs". They are a sight to see!

I'm sure there is much more I am forgetting. I am so blessed to be her mommy! It's not always easy, but I LOVE every minute.

Eileen Goudge, a New York Times bestselling author, has written 13 novels, 32 young adult novels, numerous short stories as well as magazine articles, and also a cookbook. You may recognize her as the author of The Diary, Domestic Affairs, and The Woman in Red. Once In A Blue Moon is a story about sisters and the bond of family. Here is a synopsis:

Sisters Lindsay and Kerrie Ann have known hardship from an early age. Without guidance from their neglectful mother, their only aid came from an unlikely source, a retired exotic dancer by the name of Miss Honi Love. When the girls’ mother was sent to prison, Miss Honi tried unsuccessfully to save them from being separated and sent into foster care.

Thirty years later, Lindsay is still trying to reconnect with her sister. The owner of a bookstore in the sleepy California seaside town of Blue Moon Bay, she was lucky enough to have been adopted by a loving couple. Unbeknownst to her, Kerrie Ann has suffered a very different life. Bounced from one foster home to the next, she ran away as a teenager before becoming a drug-addicted single mother. Now, newly sober, Kerrie Ann is fighting to regain custody of the little girl who was taken from her.

Neither sister’s expectations are met when they’re finally reunited. But as the two sisters engage in the fiercest battles of their lives, they are at last drawn together despite their differences, restoring belief in the unshakable bond of family.

Pumpkin in the Pumpkin Patch

On our recent visit to Kentucky, Sophie got to visit Huber's for the first time. She seemed to enjoy her time in the Pumpkin Patch.

Harry Connick, Jr.

When I think of Harry Connick, Jr., it brings back memories of when Ron and I were dating. I had heard of of Harry Connick, Jr., but was not familiar with his music. I was drawn to his big band and New Orleans jazz sounds. Fast forward to 2009 and his new CD, Your Songs. The songs he chose for this album are classics. I loved his renditions of All The Way, Besame Mucho, and The Way You Look Tonight. There were some songs that I didn't care for, but overall the album, Your Songs is perfect for any road trip (especially one to Kentucky with a seven month old who does not care for her car seat or long trips in the car).

Album Tracklisting (Originally performed by):

All The Way (Frank Sinatra)
Just The Way You Are (Billy Joel)
Can’t Help Falling In Love With You (Elvis Presley)
And I Love Her (The Beatles)
(They Long To Be) Close To You (The Carpenters)
Besame Mucho
The Way You Look Tonight
First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (Roberta Flack)
Your Song (Elton John)
Some Enchanted Evening
And I Love You So (Don McLean)
Who Can I Turn To? (Tony Bennett)
Smile (Charlie Chaplin)
Mona Lisa (Nat King Cole)

6 Months

Here is a little photo review of Sophie's first six months. She is growing by leaps and bounds! Every week she is doing something new. Although lately it's been more like every day! She has two teeth coming in on the bottom, gets up on her hands and knees and starts rocking back and forth, has been army crawling/scooting since about 4.5 months, is trying to pull up on everything, pulled herself up on her knees for Ron's birthday, and can go from being on the floor to sitting up. These six months have flown by!

Organic or Not Organic...That is the Question

I am part of the HCD Survey Panel and have been participating in MediaCurves.com studies. MediaCurves.com conducts many surveys testing TV commercials. They just conducted a study with 308 viewers of a news clip featuring a recent study which claims there is no added nutritional value in organic food products revealed that the majority (65%) will not change their purchasing behaviors. The study was conducted by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com® website on August 4, to obtain viewers’ perceptions of a news clip regarding a recent study conducted by Britain’s Food Standards Agency (FSA), which claims that there is no added nutritional benefit in consuming organic food products. The majority of respondents (71%) reported that the main reason why they purchase organic foods is that they are free of food additives (artificial colorings and preservatives), and 66% indicated that the main reason why they purchase organic foods is that they are lower in pesticide residue. Less than half (41%) reported that they buy organic foods due to the added nutritional value. More in-depth results can be viewed at http://www.mediacurves.com/NationalMediaFocus/J7478-OrganicFood/ . What do you think?
